Direct Mail: Valassis takes US lead
Valassis has completed its $1.2 billion acquisition of ADVO Inc, the US's biggest direct mail media company, to become the leading US marketing services company.
The combined company services 15,000 advertisers worldwide (including 96 of the top US 100 advertisers); has 7,500 employees in nine countries; and reaches more than 60 million households and 90 per cent of US homes with added value consumer promotions.
Valassis UK, which clears 85per cent of the UK's coupons and vouchers and is the leader in coupon data management, has just launched its first marketing media product, Bonus Bag - a promotional goodie-bag bulging with offers, coupons and samples
Alan F. Schultz, Valassis' chairman, president and CEO, says: "With complementary products, customers and distribution methods, we will be able to offer superior customer solutions of unmatched reach, scale and value".
Robert A. Mason, ADVO president, says: "ADVO's extensive shared mail network will augment Valassis' newspaper distribution network by providing shared mail reach to over 90 percent of US homes".
The combined company offers newspaper-delivered promotions such as inserts, sampling, polybags and on-page advertisements; shared mail; direct mail; in-store marketing; direct-to-door advertising and sampling; Internet-delivered marketing; loyalty marketing software; coupon and promotion clearing; promotion planning; and analytic services.
